Roanoke Blueway Shuttle
We take Roanoke upstream!
540-328-5060
Thanks for checking us out! ‘24 is our first season running the shuttle, and we’re basically beta testing this concept to see if this is something that the area needs.
At it’s simplest, I’m a guy with a truck and trailer who is passionate about helping people get on the water.
The Roanoke River is such a great resource to have right here in our backyard, and with so many access points, it’s easy to put together a trip for whatever you’re feeling. If you want to just float for an hour, or fish all day, there’s a way to make that happen right here in town.
How does this work?
First of all, you’ll need the Uber app. Because we’re testing the viability of this right now, it makes sense for us to piggyback on their platform for licensing, insurance and transaction purposes.
Text or call 540-328-5060 to schedule your pickup. We’ll schedule a time to meet at the takeout of your choice, and then drive you upstream to the put-in of your choice.
When we meet at the takeout, I’ll help you load your boats onto my trailer and stow your gear. You’ll sign off on the waiver confirming that you’re satisfied with how the boats are loaded.
We’ll open our Uber apps. You’ll request the ride, and I’ll accept the request before we fire up the truck and head upstream.
At the put-in, I’ll help you unload your boats from the trailer. You then grab your gear and hit the water!
frequently asked questions
Q: How many paddlers can you transport?
A: Our crew cab F150 can accommodate a maximum of four paddlers. As for boats, our max load is generally two canoes or kayaks longer than ten feet, one kayak under ten feet and a fourth kayak under eight feet. If kayaks under ten feet can be transported on their side, we can possibly accommodate an additional boat.
Q: What age paddlers can you transport?
A: We comply with Uber’s Community Guidelines and the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. If a paddler is under eight years of age you’ll need to provide (and then transport in your boat) the appropriate child restraint resource. Understanding that paddling possesses an inherent level of risk, exercise prudence and caution when deciding to bring your minor child(ren) on your river trip.
Q: Do you rent canoes or kayaks?
A: No, we don’t. However, Roanoke Mountain Adventures does offer Kayak Outings that include boat rental and transportation to a designated put-in.
Please note there is no relationship or affiliation between us (the Roanoke Blueway Shuttle) and Roanoke Mountain Adventures. This information is provided as a courtesy to those who lack their own boat but are interested in giving paddling a try.
Q: Do you shuttle tubers?
A: If they’re accompanying paddlers, sure. But realistically if you’re only tubing, it may be simpler to just request a ride through the Uber app and then inflate when they get you to the put-in.
Q: I’m thinking about buying a canoe/kayak. Can you haul it home for me from the store?
A: If we don’t have a scheduling conflict, I don’t see why not. Having said that, the trip has to take place in the Uber Service Area, and the owner of the boat still has to sign the waiver and ride with the boat.
